Pun Needed

I need a shirt that will make a pun between my due date and being a librarian and having due dates on books or something like that. I would make it myself, but obviously I have not thought of anything clever enough yet.

Well Hydrated

They keep telling me that dehydration and pregnancy do not mix. I'm supposed to drink 8 (16 oz) glasses of water a day to reduce the recurrence of migraines. I've really slacked today- only 3 so far. I'm just getting SO tired of needing to pee every 25 minutes.

Crib is Here!

2 of my best friends from high school (who are both pregnant, too!) came down to hang out, chat baby stuff, eat yummy food, and bring me our crib. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon!

Vocal Chords

Read last night that at 12 weeks, FuPu's mouth and vocal chords are developing. So weird to think that it'll be another 6 months before I hear his/her voice.

12 Weeks

In all the craziness of the past few days, I forgot to post about yesterday's mile-marker: FuPu is 12 weeks! In addition to the blur on the ultrasound, I also got to hear his/her heartbeat 3 times, which was amazingly reassuring. Oh, and she/he is the size of a plum this week!

Note to Self

Invest in a comfortable nightgown so I won't have to wear one of these hospital ones again in 6 months.

Another Ultrasound

So the upside to my migraine is that they did an unscheduled ultrasound to check on the baby. Besides that the baby is fine, there is no other upside. The baby would not stay still long enough to see it well (or even hear it's heartbeat well). Oh, and I'm in the hospital overnight for fluids and observation. It's most likely a hormone related migraine that will hopefully be gone tomorrow.

Puking in front of the Principal

So I couldn't stop vomiting this morning. And I ran to the bathroom and right outside (the bathroom's next to the copier) is the principal. She hears me, though she doesn't say anything. But 45 minutes later when I still can't spend more than 10 minutes away from the trashcan/toilet, I have to tell her (of course, she already guessed) and she happily lets me go home for the rest of the morning to puke in peace. Back at school now, tummy settled, but headache still in full force- guess we can't have it all.

Rough Start

Woke up with a headache which was immediately exacerbated by 5 minutes of vomiting up every last drop of 2 sips of water. Oh, and that violent puking- broke blood vessels around my eyes. If I wasn't saving every last sick day for maternity leave, I'd have stayed home today.

Ultra-Sounds

I wish I could get an ultrasound every week. I want to see FuPu again.

Keeping Secrets

I had these big plans not to tell anyone but immediate family I was pregnant until the end of the first trimester. I worry a lot about what would happen if I had to tell everyone that something happened and I wasn't pregnant anymore... Nate doesn't seem to share that fear and with every passing week, it grows smaller. And also there's the fact that I am TERRIBLE at keeping secrets. Plus telling people is so much fun! If it wasn't for the job situation, I don't know that there would be anyone left who didn't know.

Another Post About Telling People

Today at church we get to tell some of our favorite folks about FuPu. These people have known us since we got engaged, so this should be exciting!

Flannel Fabric

I bought some flannel fabric today to make 2 sleep sacks. Nate picked out a dinosaur fabric and I picked out some with rainbows and suns. Best of all, I get to use the same pattern my mother-in-law used for Nate and his siblings!

Not Really Real

It doesn't feel real. I mean, I feel pregnant and I know we're going to have a baby, but somehow I don't think it's really clicked that there is a baby growing inside me. Like right now- a real live person is developing in my abdomen. It just doesn't seem really real yet.

Fat Clothes

The maternity clothes I ordered (on sale from Old Navy!) came in today. I tried them on- they fit everywhere but the belly, which I take as a good thing. It's kind of hard to believe I'll really need all that belly space in a few months...

Vacation

I was thinking about summer vacations Nate and I might be able to take together. First I thought, "A cruise!" Nate's always wanted to go on one. And then I read that you can't go on the boat if you're more than 23 weeks pregnant. Next I thought, "We should go to Disney again!" And then I remembered that I won't be able to ride any of the rides. What's a pregnant gal who wants to take her husband on a celebratory vacation to do? Guess we'll have to settle for a trip to the mountains or to the beach. Maybe both...

11 Weeks

FuPu is the size of a walnut this week. I also read somewhere that he/she is as long as a sugar packet and weighs as much as 2 of them. Oh, and his/her head is huge- like half of his/her body length and weight. Hopefully that'll resolve itself in the next couple of weeks.
In other news, I got to tell both sets of grandparents that they'll be great-grandparents! It's nice I get to tell someone since I won't be telling anyone else here for a while. I've gotten kind-of addicted to telling people, so it's been hard to quit cold-turkey!

It's Really Morning Sickness

My morning sickness is actually restricted to first thing in the morning now! Just a few more days and I bet it'll be gone all together!

Not Telling

As we're getting closer to the end of my first trimester, we were both getting excited about telling everyone about Little Baby FuPu. But with my job situation... well, we've decided that as hard as it will be, we need to keep this a secret a bit longer. Maybe quite a bit longer. We live in a small town where everyone knows everyone. And as much as I wish it wasn't true, I know that being due in September could have a real impact on whether I get a job for next fall or not. We can't risk word getting around. We're supposed to know more about jobs by the end of March. At that point, I'll be 17 weeks. I'm not sure if I will still be able to hide it by then, but I guess all we can do is wait as long as we can.

10 Weeks!

I'm 10 weeks pregnant today and that means that FuPu has officially moved from embryo to fetus. This week he/she is the size of a prune (though hopefully not as wrinkly) and has now got elbows that bend. Also, she/he's growing fingernails and tooth-buds this week. FINGERNAILS!

Crib

Thanks to Jenni's amazing shopping skills, FuPu has a crib!

Pants

I couldn't button my pants yesterday (though they are one of might tighter pairs). I thought it was a fluke but then, today's pair is pretty tight too...

On a Happier Note

My morning sickness has been easing up. It's both milder and is usually over by 1:00. 2 months down, 7 more to go!

The Best Laid Plans

The timing for this pregnancy was based entirely around my job as a librarian. September through November is the least busy time of year in my job- the perfect time to be out on maternity leave. So now that I don't have a job as a librarian for next year (or possibly a job at all)... being pregnant makes this situation exponentially scarier.

Nickname

Nate and I have friends who kept their baby's name a secret and decided to use a nickname during the pregnancy (Yub-nub and Megatron for example). I thought this was cute and so proceeded to ask Nate what nickname we should use. Nate was all, "Um, see... my brother and I are already calling it FuPu." As weird as this sounds, it makes sense. Nate has been telling everyone that we're going to name our first child (male or female) FuPu since we got married. In fact, I knew we were ready to have a real child when he stopped pushing FuPu as his top name. But as it turns out, it's already kind of stuck... at least for the next 7 months.

Symptoms

Here is a list of all the pregnancy symptoms I have so far experienced:
  • fatigue
  • nausea
  • increased sense of smell
  • increased gag reflex
  • weird dreams
  • gas
  • food cravings/aversions
  • mood swings
  • acne
  • runny nose
According to the pregnancy books, everything and it's opposite can be a symptom of pregnancy and I feel like I've gotten quite my fair share of side-effects. I'm ready to leave a few behind in the next couple weeks.

Telling People

Nate and I told our next door neighbors today. And then I had to admit to Nate that I told a teacher at work- only to find out he told his whole prayer group at school today. So I guess we're even. Tomorrow I get to tell my 3 girl friends from high school. Telling people you're pregnant is really fun- I'm looking forward to doing it more often!

Terrible

I feel really, really terrible. I'm have super morning sickness, I have the beginnings of a cold, AND I'm feeling unbelievably emotional about feeling terrible. I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. But since that's not an option, I think I'll just try my best not to barf or cry in front of the kids.

9 Weeks!

The little embryo is the size of a grape this week. It has all it's organs, has lost it's tail (hopefully) and is working towards becoming a fetus by the end of the week!

New Bedtime

Instead of taking naps, I've been going to bed about 8:30 every night for the past week.
