Packing My Lunch

Packing my lunch has become a huge ordeal. I bring a little of everything we have at home because I never know what will sound good (or more often what will be revolting). I now have a whole filing cabinet drawer filled with food that I didn't eat from previous lunches. It just waits there in case I can stomach it tomorrow.

One Month Ago...

One month ago today, I peed on a stick, waited 3 minutes, and saw 2 lines.

Shoes

This morning, I could not bend over without going into a fit of gagging. That made putting on and tying my shoes very difficult. So difficult in fact, that I tearfully had to ask Nate to do it. He and AL thought the whole thing was pretty funny, though how dry-heaving is funny, I'm not sure.

Check-Up

Went to the doctor today for a weigh-in (I've stayed the same weight) and a round of blood tests (I didn't pass out or puke). Next appointment scheduled for the end of the first trimester.

Weird Dreams

So I put on my "normal" blog that I've been having weird dreams lately. I've been finding it difficult to think of things not related to being pregnant (since it's what I think about ALL the time), but I thought, dreams are normal. Apparently not. As one of my pregnant friends noted on that blog post, weird dreams are in fact a pregnancy symptom. And let me tell you, they are WEIRD. But you know what? I'd rather have even weirder dreams if it meant I could be done with this new thing where I can't stand the way my mouth tastes (the aftertaste of everything is disgusting!).

First Purchase

At a consignment sale today, I make my first baby purchase: a Moby wrap, still in the box. At just $25, I couldn't pass it up.

The Cure!

I found a cure for "morning" sickness! Sleep! When I'm asleep, I don't feel like throwing up. If only I could use this remedy all the time...

Gas

I've been trying to figure out which foods are giving me such terrible gas (it's painful!) so I can cut them from my diet. After a week of investigation, I've figured it out: ALL FOOD. Everything makes me feel bloated and farty.

The Fun Part

I'm feeling very anxious for this to get to "the fun part." So far, I just feel icky and I can't tell anyone why. Hopefully that'll all change in 4 more weeks. That seems like a terribly long time right now.

8 Weeks!

Today I am exactly 8 weeks pregnant. I managed not to throw up in the shower for the first time in a week. That's pretty exciting.
You know what else is exciting? The little embryo is the size of a large raspberry this week. It's growing it's little webbed fingers and toes and loosing the tail.

Pickles

Warning: Huge pregnancy stereotype about to be reinforced

I've eaten an entire jar of pickles in the last 4 days.

Preggie Pop Drops

Despite their awful name (I also dislike the words "preggers" and "preggo") I purchased these rather expensive little candies in the hope they would help my all-waking-hours sickness. I tried one this morning and... so far so good. I do feel better than yesterday, though that could also be attributed to the ginger snaps I've been munching all morning.

Things That Make Me Gag

Here is a list of things that make me throw-up/gag:
  • gagging sounds
  • strong smells
  • bending over
  • anything touching my stomach
  • anything touching my throat
  • blowing my nose

Smelly

The smells as I walked into Kroger were so strong I started to gag. It's very strange for my goal for the morning to be "do not throw up or cry in the grocery store."

The Waiting

Being pregnant is all about waiting. First I waited for my period to come. Then I waited for my doctor appointment. We waited to tell family and now we're waiting to tell everyone else. I'm waiting for morning sickness to stop. Waiting for my boobs to get bigger (let's be honest here). Waiting to start showing. Waiting to feel it move. Waiting for the baby to actually get here. This whole thing is a whole lot of waiting. Maybe I'll learn some patience.

New "Trick"

So during my most-of-the-day queasiness, Nate finds it hilarious to occasionally make a vomiting sound. The reason this is so "funny" is because 99% of the time, it results in me, immediately, gagging.

So Thirsty

I've had to break my New Year's resolution to drink more water. If I drink more than a few sips of anything, it increases my queasiness exponentially. So I fight this constant battle between feeling thirsty and feeling like I'm going to barf up whatever I just drank.

Morning Sickness

I feel really queasy from the moment I wake up until lunch (after lunch, it's better but not "normal"). Nothing seems to make it better and it's all I can do to keep from puking in front of the kids.

Less Whining

One good thing about being secretly pregnant- much less opportunity to whine. I'm feeling pretty icky sick most of the day (plus the occasional mood swings and strong impulses to nap) and since being pregnant is a wonderful opportunity that I've done (with some help from Nate) to myself, it's probably best that I don't spend too much time wallowing in self-pity.

Another Blog?

So yesterday I was exactly 7 weeks pregnant. We got an ultrasound and heard the heartbeat which was amazing. And all immediate family members now know. My mom asked me today if it was killing me not to blog about this and YES, IT IS. I want to document and share every minute of this new experience. So for now it'll just be for family, but later I can make it public and if anyone wants to take the time to read back over my first few secret weeks of pregnancy, they'll be able to. More importantly, it'll be here for me.
